The Junior Softball level continues to focus on development while building on concepts that were learned at the Minor level. Teams compete citywide against other 9-12 year old teams in association with the Lowell Girls Softball League.
Umpires are used, scores are recorded, and team standings are maintained. Players pitch to opposing teams, with walks and strikeouts introduced as key components of play. Junior-level rules allow players to become exposed to an increased level of competition, helping them to develop base running skills, advanced defensive strategies, and an understanding of the strike zone.
Coaches will play an active role in introducing more advanced concepts through team practices while allowing players to develop more position-specific skills and confidence. Players will understand the game more strategically, with a continued emphasis on promoting softball fundamentals and teamwork.
